Manufacturing USA is Inspiring Change through the 2018 Science + Innovation Awards
Today, the executive producer of Teen Choice Awards publicly announced that the first ever 2018 Science + Innovation Awards inspired by Manufacturing USA will air following the NFL on CBS this fall. Standing on the main stage in front of the Manufacturing USA display on the Grand Concourse at the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS), Mike Burg (Executive Producer) and Tracy Frost (Department of Defense Manufacturing Technology Director) described how Manufacturing USA’s work in education and workforce development has inspired and enabled the show.
The idea for the Science + Innovation Awards originated out of a Manufacturing USA education and workforce development meeting. Having worked with NextFlex, one of the Manufacturing USA institutes, Mike was invited to participate in discussions about how to change the incorrect stigmas around manufacturing and increase interest in science, technology, engineering, and math fields. After hearing about the exciting education and workforce development opportunities coming out of the Manufacturing USA institutes, he made the suggestion to partner up with Manufacturing USA to host a “Teen Choice Awards” style show that honors scientists and innovators. Due to that meeting, the Science + Innovation Awards was born out of the inspiring work already being accomplished by the 14 institutes in the Manufacturing USA network.
The goal of the Science + Innovation Awards is it celebrate rising leaders whose passions and hard work are shaping the future of the United States. For the first time ever, Manufacturing USA and the producers of the Teen Choice Awards will roll out the Red Carpet for America’s innovators. With help from some celebrities, science and innovation will be honored in a star-studded extravaganza.
In classic Hollywood fashion, the announcement wrapped up with a sneak peek trailer of the 2018 Science + Innovation Awards.
