Yuebin (YB) Guo is the Assistant Director for Research Partnerships and an American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Foundation Swanson Fellow at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Advanced Manufacturing National Program Office (AMNPO). He is also a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Funding Director of Consortium for Surface Integrity and Functionality at the University of Alabama. He was also a Humboldt visiting professor in WZL at RWTH Aachen, Germany. YB received a Ph.D. in Manufacturing Engineering from Purdue University and a M.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering from UC-Berkeley.
At Alabama, his research area is advanced manufacturing and materials processing. He has been internationally recognized for his seminal research contributions to the development, understanding, and control of process−surface integrity−functionality relationships for various manufacturing processes, which has produced significant impacts in manufacturing science and engineering. He is an author of 300+ peer-refereed technical publications. YB is the recipient of many awards including SME Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award, SAE Teetor Educational Award, NSF CAREER Award, NAMRC best paper award, Tau Beta Pi Outstanding Faculty Award, Humboldt Research Award for experience scientists, and Changjiang Endowed Guest Chair Professor. He has served as an associate editor for ASME Journal of Manufacturing Science & Engineering and International Journal of Machining Science, and an editorial board member for several manufacturing journals. He is an elected Fellow of ASME, SME, AvH, ISNM, and a member of CIRP.
As the Assistant Director for Research Partnerships, YB works with AMNPO and Federal agency staff to plan, design, and develop formal documents for announcements and solicitations for Manufacturing USA. He will ensure alignment of Manufacturing USA formal requirements and program structure with capabilities for RD&D partnerships to support industrial development and global market competitiveness. He is also be responsible for outreach to non-federal stakeholders to ensure effective whole-of-government interface communications for advanced manufacturing.
