This REMADE Institute educational and workforce development (EWD) program develops 3 short courses (awareness, practitioner, and expert) that demonstrate the use of predictions from phase diagram (CALPHAD) software to incorporate microstructure models into processing simulations using finite element method (FEM) software. The course material is presented through practical, real-world examples of simultaneously reducing energy requirements, greenhouse gas emissions, and cost through (1) elimination of unnecessary reheat steps, (2) improvement of manufacturing yield, (3) minimization in machining scrap, (4) maximization of material recovery for recycling, and (5) reduction in primary material consumption.
