Alexis Peña is an American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Science & Technology Policy Fellow (STPF) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Office of Advanced Manufacturing (OAM), which also serves as the Advanced Manufacturing National Program Office for Manufacturing USA. Alexis received a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University.
Prior to joining OAM, Alexis co-founded a biotechnology startup and worked across innovation and commercialization, including doctoral work in manufacturing and IND regulatory activities for a human cellular and tissue-based product in Phase II clinical trials; served as a Commercialization Fellow at Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures supporting a university corporate partnership group; and served as an NSF I-Corps instructor focused on problem-based discovery and identifying value propositions for emerging technologies.
At OAM, Alexis works with federal agency staff to strengthen the U.S. advanced manufacturing ecosystem and accelerate technology commercialization.
