After awarding the public-private Manufacturing USA institute to American Robotics, the Department of Defense (DOD) will contribute $80 million to the institute, while partner organizations will contribute $173 million.
A $253 million project largely funded by the Department of Defense, the Advanced Robotics Manufacturing Institute (ARM) will be used to study and further develop new technology around manufacturing, artificial intelligence, 3D printing and robotics.

Katie Stebbins, meanwhile, was seeking someone who understood high-tech manufacturing inside and out. Stebbins, the state’s assistant secretary of tech and innovation, needed an expert to help shepherd the state’s involvement in the federally funded initiative known as Manufacturing USA.
